Interactive Space Design of the Children's Library Space for de Bibliotheek AanZet Feb-June 2022
My contributions:
UX Researcher / UI Designer, Graphic Designer
Project Overview
The public library AanZet wanted children ages 0-12 to feel more welcome and excited about choosing books in the library, specifically by making the environment more playful. The goal for us was to redesign the library environment in an immersive way to motivate children to look for books and to read.

1.
Research Phase
The first step of this project was research, which we did through multiple routes. We performed Desk Research, Environment Observations, Participatory Design, a childhood Photo Study, sent out Surveys, and of course interviewed our client.

3.
Ideate
To ideate, we brainstormed as a group using two creative methods on a Miro board. We then turned these ideas into a few different concepts. Below are some screenshots of our workspace, as well as one of my own concepts.
2.
Define Phase
After completing our research, the next step was to define. Who are we designing for? What is the problem? What design direction will we be taking?
By answering these questions, we created a clear vision of what we needed to do, which further helped us ideate and design.

4.
Design
From our ideas and individual concepts we then designed three final concepts as a group. The final concept we chose was an adventurous, forest-themed area to encourage children's curiosity.
5.
Final Concept Video
In the final concept, the children's areas of the library are divided according to the different personalities of the children. Based on the children's personalities, we have designed different functions for each area.
-
Connection
The use of bookshelves and walls to divide the functional areas ensure that the areas are clearly defined and interconnected so that children can move around them effortlessly.
-
Function
The children's area is divided into three main functional areas, the reading area (the tree shelf section), the interactive area (where children can play) and the quiet area.
